butter side up bring gerry read to leeds


leeds crew butter side up are bringing gerry read to intimate underground cellar wire on friday 9th november. it will the first time the young and mysterious artist has played the city.

as we announced recently, read is soon to drop his first full length, jummy, following a consistant string of eps of delsin, fourth wave and others since switching up from a dubstep to more 4/4 orientated sound (read about it in an early interview). the album follows a smilar stylistic path to what you’d expect – dusty house loops, burried jazz motifs and a magpie approach to sampling all packaged with frayed edges into thoroughly roughshod grooves. going on the various podcasts he has turned out in the last year, as a dj he is just as raw, often slinging together abrasive techno loops, sandy deep house and classic samples into thoroughly intoxicating brews.

the venue is one of leeds’ most intimate. red brick walls, low arched ceiling and punchy sound, it’s where, amongst others, pearson sound hosts his occasional acetate night.residents hamish cole, hugh bailey and johnny sleight provide able support.
